Development Update 2: Skins, Arenas, Tournaments, Oh My!
I'm back with another development update! It's been a few weeks since the last one, and I thought I would update you all on what I've been up to behind the scenes!
Let's start with tournament mode. It's DONE! Tournament mode is a 6 round gauntlet where you fight your way up the ranks to become the All Valley Champion. The early rounds are pretty easy, fighting against random extras from different dojos, characters like Bert or Nate, or even some YouTuber cameos (again, will be announced closer to release, we have 3 on board currently!). In the later rounds, you'll fight up and coming fighters like Kenny Payne, Anthony LaRusso, or Kyler Park, as seen in one of the teaser screenshots! And if you can reach the finals, you'll fight against the best of the best, such as Robby, Hawk, Sam, or Kwon, so bring your A Game! Tournament mode is truly a lot of fun and I'm gonna be improving it still, but its really a blast to try and run through!
Next, skins, one of the two most highly requested features. I have the framework for them in the game! Now it's just about, well, making a bunch of skins. In the teaser images you can see sneak peeks at Hawk's Cobra Kai skin, and Robby/Johnny's Miyagi Do skins. I'm working on a whole bunch of fun and cool skins, so stay tuned for that! But they're in the game!
Along with skins, I've also added different arenas, another highly requested feature. These backgrounds take SO long to make, I am no artist, I do my best. You can take a sneak peek at the two new ones I've implemented, Miyagi-Do Karate and the Sekai Taikai Arena! The arenas will each have their own music associated with them, but we aren't there just yet. That will be in the game before release, I promise!
On that same note, let's talk about the Sekai Taikai. It is a BEAST. While I continue to work on new skins and arenas on the side, I have this monster of a mode about to start development. The first piece of the Sekai Taikai going into development is the 6v6 Elimination round. This will work similarly to a Pokemon battle, where you have a party of 6 and you can swap in and out. To encourage tag ins and out, if you swap out a character, for a few turns they'll regain a small amount of HP, so strategy in your swapouts will be critical. Also, you will be able to prevent tagouts! This will be a rare thing dependent on speed and move accuracy, consider it like a critical hit! This mode, and the Sekai Taikai in general, will take a LONG time to put together, but I think when its all said and done, it'll be very worth it. I'm gonna do my best with it!
There's also a LOT of new characters coming. I don't want to give them all away, but, you can see Kyler is added, I've also implemented Chozen and Yoon since last development update, but there's so many more between NPCs for tournament mode and playables. I will tease that the Iron Dragons are probably the next additions, along with Kim Da Eun, but let me not get too far ahead of myself!
Thank you so much once again for sticking through this development process. Making games is hard, but it's very rewarding. Seeing this come together has been so fun, I've been working on this project since I drew Johnny Lawrence (my profile pic on Itch.io!) back in August, and it has been so rewarding. Stay Badass!
